Turning ALMOST 40 & Loving It!

August 9, 2017

Ok guys.. I am so sorry I have been MIA for like over a month. So much crap has been going on. I was misdiagnosed with scabies.. YES! SCABIES! and you have no idea what I have been doing to my house since then. Anyways, I will write a detailed post about that experience.ย Then I hit a milestone: On July 6th I turned almost 40. Yup ALMOST. What do I mean by that and why in the hell would I want that hideous 4-0 number anywhere in my numerical vocabulary sooner than necessary? Because ladies, we have to OWN it. Ok, so I am not 40 yet…. I just turned 39. My last blissful year as a thirty-something year old. Turning almost 40 isn’t as scary as I thought. I used to think 30 was so old and far away when I was in my early 20’s. Ugh, that was so long ago! Ok so, I am going to prove it to you guys why turning almost 40 is wonderful.

Financial Stability..or a Real Strive for it

By this age you would (or should) have some financial stability. A better paying job than when you were in high school or your 20’s. Life is crazy and shit happens. You could have been married, raising kids in your 20’s and throughout your 30’s and put aside a career or finishing school to raise these youth-suckers and now you are ready for a career. But where do you begin? At this age things can be scary…and feel like it is hard to start over. Little do women of this age know… you have an advantage. You are older and wiser and much more loyal in the workforce. Hence why you would make an ideal employee. By this age you don’t have the soccer mom appointments you used to have. Or toddler’s you need to find daycare for only to find out you will be spending literally all your paycheck on monthly daycare fees and realize it’s just easier to stay home.

Fuck It Attitude

Yeah, I said it. Women this age have more of a “fuck it” attitude. Why? Because we have been through all the bullshit that comes from work, school, kids, MEN and some of those lame friends you used to have that you “broke up” with. By this age you have gone through some shit and you are not taking anymore crap from anyone. You have the “been there, done that” vibe going on. If you are single, this is a huge turn on for men since you are oozing with confidence. All because you are not going to take anyone’s crap anymore! You could also care less of how you look. So what you are still in pjs and it’s 3pm? So what you want to dress up when going to the grocery store? Or not! Who really cares what others think at this point… you have been through your share of drama and are happy with yourself and have nothing to prove to anyone.

Closer Family Bond

Around this time in life is when things start getting “real”. Parents, aunts, uncles get older. Your grandparents may have, sadly, already past on, etc. In this time of your life is when you realize how short life is and you want to make the best of it. When you were younger, you wanted to be as far away from your parents as possible. You wanted freedom. Now you may have the desire to have family gatherings, spend more time with your parents and even are actually looking forward to a family vacation or a family reunion (if your family does those. I always wanted to have a family that did family reunion picnics!). All in all, family time has started to really become something you desire to have more of and spending as much quality time with close and extended family has started to become really important.

You Have More Patience

Even as parents, at this age you are more patient than before. Especially if you have multiple kids. This all goes back to the “fuck it” attitude. If you actually decided to have kids late and your kids are young, you most likely will be a more nurturing parent. I remember being a young mom my mind racing all the time with different things. Worry about getting my kid to school on time so I don’t look like that young irresponsible parent. Worrying about what people think. Dealing with friend or boyfriend drama. Worry about money. All the things that I kind of don’t give a shit about anymore. If I am broke, so what? I don’t need to buy those designer jeans for myself or my kid! Who cares if my grays are showing… I’ll get to the salon for a color touch up….. eventually.

The World is Your Oyster!

Yes it is. You can do what ever you want. Travel? You most likely will be a more seasoned traveller and going to places like spring break inย Cabo may seem so daunting. Maybe you are looking for ย a more sophisticated trip. Europe? History tour in New Orleans? Martha’s Vineyard? For me, the partying scene is over. I am interested in traveling and seeing more historical, calmer places in the world. Bali anyone? And at almost 40 maybe you have the desire to take up a new hobby or rekindle and old one that you forgot about or stopped doing because you were busy with school, raising kids or just lost the drive. Painting? Piano lessons? Gold mining? (I have recently overheard some people talking about going and I am totally interested!) ๐Ÿ™‚ Find your passion and starting going for it!

Turning almost 40 isn’t so bad. If you are like me and your kids are grown and out of the house… PARY TIME! (who are we kidding? I get pooped by 10 pm). If you still have little ones in the house… don’t worry! They will leave eventually and at least you got to enjoy your 20’s (hopefully). Just know that at almost 40 you are stronger, smarter and more independent than you were 20 years ago. Enjoy the up coming 40’s. You worked hard and you deserve it!
